We are seeking an Activity Aide (Full time) for our location in Ottawa, Ontario.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Participates in the planning, organizing and/or implementation of a recreation program enhancing the physical, cultural, social, spiritual and intellectual development of the residents as an integral part of total resident care.

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent will hold a two-year community college diploma from a recognized post ­secondary school in recreation/gerontology/recreation or, a related discipline. An innovative individual with an interest in recreation. Demonstrated capability of relating well to residents, staff, and members of the community. Fluency in English and Italian is an asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the recreation supervisor, responsible for planning, organizing and/or implementing meaningful recreation programs within the facility, to meet the residents' needs.
  • Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQT) program.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate records for this department including attendance, residents' progress, and resident assessments, care plans, charting/evaluation input into CQI, MDS, RAT Assessments.
  • Participates in staff meetings and supplies input into new programs and future possibilities.
  • Responsible for supervising and assisting any volunteers assigned to him/her by the recreation supervisor.
  • Meets with new residents, to help acquaint them with the recreation department and its policies.
  •  Complies with safety regulations and policies in all recreation programs. Responsible for appearance of work area.
  • Requisitions necessary supplies and materials, to carry out a program, to the recreation supervisor.
  • Participates in team conferences, presenting the recreation department's assessment and goals, and contributing to the resident care plan.
  • Responsible for maintaining ongoing effective communication with the recreation supervisor and other departments as appropriate.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and Workplace Hazardous, Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
  • Encourages any and all possibilities for the residents to offer their skills and knowledge to others and/or offers the residents his/her skill and knowledge, striving to improve the residents' lifestyle.
  • Responsible for development and upgrading of his/her knowledge and skills in recreation programming.
  • Irregular hours including weekends and evenings are inherent in the job. Flexibility a must.
