Nurse Manager of Obstetrical and Emergency Services  (Permanent Full Time)

We are a small, rural hospital located in Almonte, Ontario, 40 kilometers west of downtown Ottawa. The Hospital offers a wide range of acute and continuing care services including a 24/7 Emergency Department.  There are 21 Medical/Surgical beds, five level-one Obstetrical beds, 26 Complex Continuing Care beds and two Operating Rooms.  In addition, the Hospital operates the Fairview Manor (FVM), a 112 bed Long Term Care Home located on the Hospital campus, as well as the Lanark County Paramedic Service.  The Hospital campus also includes the Ottawa Valley Family Health Team; the Leeds, Grenville & District Health Unit and Lanark County Mental Health.  Together, these facilities provide our patients and residents with integrated, coordinated healthcare to support their seamless movement from one care setting to another.

 Reporting directly to the Vice President of Patient/Resident Services & Chief Nursing Executive (CNE), the Nurse Manager of Obstetrical and Emergency Services is accountable for all aspects of patient care and services within the Obstetrical and Emergency Programs.  The Nurse Manager will be responsible for the quality of care delivered, patient and staff safety, as well as the efficient, cost effective utilization of hospital resources within the programs.  It also entails the establishment of positive and effective working relationships with stakeholders in related programs and services including the Champlain Maternal New born Regional Program.

 All leadership responsibilities are expected to be carried out in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the hospital.


  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in nursing or other related field preferred.
  • Certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • A minimum of five (5) years related clinical experience in Obstetrics/Critical Care setting
  • Two (2) years of progressive supervisory/management experience

  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated knowledge of principles of adult education
  • Effective as a team player through collaboration, cooperation, and respect.
  • Able to critically appraise literature to inform practice, including policy development.
  • Advanced computer skills with database and spreadsheet programs (Excel), word processing programs (Word), and presentation programs (PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently. Excellent organizational skills.  Able to manage programs and projects to achieve agreed upon objectives and deliverables, and produce timely results within allocated resources.
  • Ability to work in a manner that is in compliance with patient/resident and employee safety practices, policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Ability to contribute to a work environment that is conducive to the organizations Workplace Violence and Harassment policy.
  • Promotes and supports a culture of patient and family-centered care.
